David Janzen is the owner and primary consultant/trainer at Simex LLC.
David is also an Assistant
Professor of Computer Science at
California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo,
California where he teaches primarily in the software engineering program.
David completed his PhD in computer science at the
University of Kansas in August 2006.
His research focuses primarily on empirical software engineering, most
recently looking at the effects of test-driven development on software
design quality.
He holds a Master of Science in computer science from the
University of Kansas, and a Bachelor's
degree in computer science and mathematics from
Tabor College.
David has been developing software professionally for over thirteen years.
He holds a patent from his work developing near real-time telecommunications
fraud detection systems for Sprint.
He is a Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform, and he has developed
software applications professionally in Java, C++, Lisp, VBA, and Fortran.
David formerly was an Associate Professor of Computer Science at
Bethel College in North Newton, KS.
Since January 2000, he has also been teaching industry training courses in
Object-Oriented Analysis, Design, and Programming, focusing on UML, Java,
and C++.
David regularly attends the OOPSLA
conference and occasionally attends other conferences such as ICSE, CSEE&T,
and the SIGCSE national conference. David has
published
extensively including a cover feature in IEEE Computer and
research papers at conferences such as OOPSLA, CSEE&T, and SIGCSE.
David and his wife also created
Morro Bay Dining, and ran
The Campus Cottage, a guesthouse
bed and breakfast in North Newton, KS.
